On February 8, 2026, the Vancouver Guandan Association grandly held the “Celebrating New Year Across Five Continents · Wuliangye Cup Guandan Tournament” in Vancouver, British Columbia, drawing hundreds of Guandan enthusiasts from across Metro Vancouver. Friends met over cards to celebrate the New Year, share hometown ties and promote traditional Chinese culture. The tournament received generous sponsorship and support from Wuliangye, adding rich cultural atmosphere and competitive fun to the festive season.

Guandan — a mind-sport card game beloved in Chinese communities — wins more players with its strategy and teamwork. Originating in Jiangsu, Guandan continues to grow among overseas Chinese communities, and the Vancouver Guandan Association, the most influential local organization, has long devoted itself to promoting Guandan culture, enriching community life and building exchange platforms.

Match Highlights

The venue overflowed with New Year spirit. Chinese red decorated the hall, spring couplets reflected smiling faces, and cheerful laughter blended with the crisp sound of shuffling cards into a distinctive “New Year symphony”. Guandan — a traditional card competition of wit and teamwork — glowed with warmer, deeper cultural feeling amid the festive atmosphere of a foreign land.

The matches unfolded in a lively yet orderly atmosphere. Players stayed composed and coordinated seamlessly, showing strategy and grace between offence and defence. Every round was both a contest of skill and an exchange of friendship — tense competition alongside mutual New Year wishes, perfectly blending sport with reunion warmth.

Celebrating the Year with Cards, Sharing Feeling with Wine

As the tournament’s lead sponsor and an important representative of Chinese baijiu culture, Wuliangye provided Wuliangye-themed Guandan playing cards and generous prizes, infusing the competition with cultural depth and festive warmth. Carrying a thousand years of brewing craft and Chinese ritual culture, Wuliangye is an important symbol for expressing blessings and reunion on traditional festivals. Partnering with the Vancouver Guandan Association on this New Year tournament was not only brand support for a community cultural event, but also active support for carrying traditional New Year customs overseas.

Guandan is more than a game — it is a bond for spreading Chinese culture overseas. Through Wuliangye’s participation, we hope more people feel the charm of traditional Chinese culture while bringing communities closer. Champions, runners-up and third-place winners received Wuliangye New Year commemorative wines and honour trophies. Between toasts, they celebrated victory and entrusted good wishes for the new year.

Five Continents Celebrate Together: Happy New Year

“Celebrating New Year Across Five Continents” was more than a tournament — it was a festive reunion for overseas Chinese. Here were reunions with old friends and first meetings with new ones; the tension of competition and the warmth of the festival. Guandan became the bond connecting everyone, letting Chinese culture bloom warmly in Vancouver’s winter.

The tournament concluded amid warm applause and New Year blessings. Participants expressed hope that such events continue, letting traditional culture take root overseas and hometown ties grow stronger in reunion. Wishing everyone peace and all the best in the new year!
