When the familiar flavour of the New Year slowly rises in a foreign land, a glass of wine from home often best awakens the reunion deep in memory.

As the Lunar New Year arrived, the atmosphere of China’s most traditional festival quietly warmed on Canada’s West Coast. Sinocan Supply Inc. joined hands with Yanghe to host Lunar New Year tastings at the Tasting Room of the BCLiquor Cambie 39 store in Vancouver — mellow aromas spreading quietly across wintry Vancouver with wine as the medium, adding a touch of Eastern warmth to the festival.

Running from February 20 through the traditional festive period until the fifteenth day of the lunar new year, the tastings gave consumers an ongoing opportunity to discover Chinese baijiu’s cultural depth and flavour character.

Bringing the Taste of New Year into Mainstream Liquor Stores

Lunar New Year is the most important festival in Chinese hearts. Spring couplets, lanterns, reunion dinners and raised glasses — and wine has always held an important place on the New Year table.

As a representative brand of China’s strong-aroma baijiu, Yanghe has continued expanding overseas in recent years. Setting up a Lunar New Year tasting feature inside BCLiquor — the core liquor retail system of British Columbia — means Chinese baijiu culture is gradually entering mainstream Canadian consumer settings. The elegant blue bottles stood out strikingly under the lights against the festive displays, bringing festive cheer to the local community and showing more mainstream consumers the unique charm of Chinese baijiu culture.

For many Chinese customers, seeing a familiar Chinese brand at BCLiquor feels both warm and quietly proud; for local consumers, it is a rare chance to meet Chinese baijiu culture.

Tasting on Site: The Mellow Strong-Aroma Charm

During the event, staff introduced in-store customers to Yanghe’s brand history, brewing craft and the distinctive “mellow strong-aroma” taste, guiding them through professional tastings.

Unlike the “fiery” and “harsh” stereotypes many Western consumers hold about baijiu, Yanghe Daqu is known for a mellow entry, harmonious aroma and long finish. Tasters at the event remarked on its layered richness, pure aroma and pronounced lingering sweetness — gentler and more rounded, a completely new taste experience.

A local consumer trying Chinese baijiu for the first time said:

“It’s smoother than I expected. The aroma is very distinctive and elegant. It feels different from other spirits I’ve tried.”

For overseas Chinese, that familiar aroma is more like an emotional connection — as if instantly transported back to the New Year’s Eve dinner table.

Wine as Medium, Carrying the Eastern New Year Spirit

In a globalized world, Chinese New Year has become a widely celebrated cultural festival. Yanghe’s Vancouver tastings during the festival were not just product promotion, but cultural exchange.

From Jiangsu, China to Vancouver, Canada — from traditional distilleries to overseas mainstream retail — Yanghe connects East and West with mellow flavour, delivering reunion blessings through wine aroma.

Running the full traditional festive period, from February 20 to the fifteenth day of the lunar new year, the tastings gave more people time to step into the Tasting Room and raise a glass.

Whether you are a Chinese long working overseas or a friend curious about Eastern culture, this Lunar New Year you could raise a glass of Yanghe in Vancouver.

Let the wine aroma speak for us:
Happy Lunar New Year.
